I don't beleive that this generalization would invalidate the conclusions. However, programmers should accommodate the possibility of one having more than one planned move for a given position. For example, in the position after 1.e4, it might be a good idea to play different moves from time to time, including 1...e6, 1...e5, 1...c5, etc. This could either be treated as separate repertoires or as a single repertoire with multiple prepared moves for the same position. Indeed, one could combine all of one's repertoires into one giant collection of positions with you-to-move combined with one or more prepared moves for each position. This "giant" repertoire would encompass all of one's White and Black repertoires. It really boils down to having a set of positions coupled with one or more planned ways to handle the position.
