see www.aceshardware.com for benchmarks of DIEP:
  dual 1.2 AMD ==> 120k nps
  dual 1.7Ghz Xeon ==> 106k nps
  quad 700Xeon linux ==> 100k nps
  dual 1Ghz P3 ==> 80k nps  (VIA chipset + socket cpu's)
  dual 800P3 ==> 72k nps (superior supermicro motherboard and slot1)
  quad xeon 550 ==> 70k nps (windows NT 4.0 tuple server)

Especially VIA chipsets of the P3 work bad for DIEP.

the quad xeons are by far most expensive machines,
followed by the dual Xeon. Also the dual AMD is not cheap

The p3s with VIA chipset are very cheap but also relatively seen slowest.

Fastest for me was always a server motherboard when talking about duals.
Those motherboards are usual not the cheapest.
