As new research has shown the brain does not deteriorate greatly with age. GM
Korchnoi is a good example of this. He has never lost his love for the game of
chess and has always been an active player. GM Korchnoi is on the verge of
winning yet another GM Tournament (Cat. 14) over younger players as GM Radjabov,
GM Polgar, GM Short, and even GM Karpov is young compared to GM Korchnoi.

I doubt though GM Fischer is super strong today, as you must be active and play
chess. If you don’t use it, you will lose it. Thats not to say GM Fischer could
not reach the top 10 or better if GM Fischer had the will and desire to train
and play hard again. New research suggests age alone would not stop him from
being great again.
