There are quite a few cases where a halfway competent human will be able to determine, beyond a doubt, that one specific course of action will win. The king hunt is a frequent topic. And unbreakable pins, cages, strategic sacrifices ... etc, etc ... Computer programs are short range tacticians, and damn good ones at that. But long range themes are present in many games.
