Hi Eduard,

Looking at your position Q5T version of Rebel Century plays 1.Nc5 and doesn't
see a way out:

[D]8/8/8/pp1b4/3P2k1/P1KN1bP1/8/8 w - -

Rebel Engine for ECTool. (c) Ed Schröder

Engine version : REBEL CENTURY 2
Rebel personality : "Q5T"
Opening book file : RebelC.mvs
Hash table size : 12 MB
Analysis mode : Analyzing next move

I was curious what would happen after 1..bxa4 if as you say it is still a draw.
The continuation that comes out of the computer seems alright but I think you
are right; if a computer doesn't have special knowledge about this kind of
ending it thinks it will end up a piece more. Even if you enter 1.a4 bxa4 2.Kb2
Kxg3 3.Ka3 Bc6 it still gives +3.6 for Black. But now I am curious does Fritz
know here that it is a draw or was 1.a4 played without the right knowledge? Or
is it not a draw after all?

After 1.a4:

Last Move : 1.a4 (Black to play)

03:39 15.00 3.20 1..bxa4 2.Kb2 Kxg3 3.Ka3 Bc6 4.Nb2 Kf4 5.Nd3+ Ke3
18:04 16.00 3.63 1..bxa4 2.Kb2 Kxg3 3.Ne5

After 1.a4 bxa4 2.Kb2 Kxg3 3.Ka3 Bc6

[D]8/8/2b5/p7/p2P4/K2N1bk1/8/8 w - -

Last Move : 3... Bc6 (White to play)

00:00 01.06 -3.38 4.Nc5

00:04 12.00 -3.04 4.Nb2 Kf4 5.Nxa4 Ke4
00:12 13.00 -3.29 4.Nb2 Kf4 5.Nxa4 Ke3

24:55 16.00 -3.59 4.Nb2 Kf4 5.Nxa4

What does Fritz 6 or 6x do in this position? Does it know it is a draw?

Actually I should be studying and not chesspositions, tentams coming and I
started a bit late, so I better sign off again...

Groeten allemaal!

Eelco
