Hello everyone Since a lot of developers are reading this list here is a simple (I hope :-) enhancement request: Wouldn't it be nice with a command line option to commercial chess programs to run them in xboard mode?? If you want to benchmark chess programs nowadays the three options as I know of are available: (please, correct if I'm wrong) * AUTO232, works only on PC and the DOS environment. (works good, but limited to certain platform and program and the length of your cable! ) * Run winboard/xboard with "first chess program" and "second chess program" option. (works good, but no commercial chess programs are available) * Move the chess pieces by your self. (This old fashion way always works!!) So what if I want to benchmark my companys 16 CPU V-class computer running crafty(unix) against my Pentium II running Genius 5(NT)??? (Who do you think would win ?) Well, There aren't many options :-((( I know that the best way would be to develop a unified international-chess-protocol but a project like that would take ages...... So since the xboard, winboard interface already exists on both the windows and unix platform (and can be easily ported to other future platforms). a logical step for all commercial chess programers willing to benchmark their program against other chess programs would be to implement such a feature (option). Please let me know what you think Regards Michael
