There are some interesting cases here. If you are behind in material and can deliver a perpetual, it is interesting to see if you can make a non checking move and still have a perpetual on your opponents reply. This situation is not too uncommon. If that is the case the evaluation might very well be set higher than a draw. The actual scoring might be trickier. One example of that is the game Hamarat - Chess Mail Readers. Where many programs will take the draw as white due to the material deficit. Instead of improving the position while having the draw in hand. The idea of attacking and having a safe out. The game: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. f4 e5 7.
