The SSDF does compare to the current Fide ratings .I think few people have taken the time to analyze the games of players in the 2600-2700 rating range. Computer analysis of all these games show basic tactical Errors(from a computer standpoint).I would bet on Fritz vs Shirov or Ivanchuck anyday (standard 40/2 match 10 games)
