Yes, that could be a help.
It would be even better if all debug output (including winboard's) had
some kind of time stamp.

I bet, you know very well. This kind of remote diagnostics/speculation
is a little bit unfortunate. You have to rely on people which you don't
know, who are using platforms you don't know and program versions you
don't know. Usually, no chance to reproduce things at home - an
unpleasant situation (at least for me).
But I guess, one gets used to it.
