I remeber watching the Shredder 6 games (most of them) and Shredder got out of book just fine, with both programs agreeing on an equal score when out of opening. For example, right now Hiarcs 7.32 is playing Fritz 7b on my site and Hiarcs won the 2 first games and have a + 5.84 score as i write this, in game 3, this is using the j7book.ctg for Hiacrs and Fritz7.ctg for Fritz 7b, so using the default book for Fritz 7b has not helped F7b so far. I personally don't believe that a program can benefit that much from a specially tailored book, if Shredder 6 on the SSDF had played opponents like Fritz 7, CT14.0 (on equal hardware), GT2.0.and so on, i am sure it would not be #1 right now, book or no book. Hardware seems to mean a lot for Shredder 6, on my list Shredder 6_Dual is 154 points above Shredder 6_Single, that is more than 70 points for doubling the processor speed (obviously) and the fact that Shredder 6_SSDF has played relatively high ranked opponents using slow hardware (almost 3 times advantage for Shredder 6_SSDF) I think is more of a contributing factor.
