Ummm ... 4.0 lite is the freeware version I meant.

If you want to see how it looks, load a single PGN game, indicate where
you want the diagrams with [DIAGRAM] in the annotations, add your own
annotations, and print. Note that you have the option of figurine notation.

Also, print the help file and the "Rules of Chess". They will print
without the diagrams (restriction of the free version), but they will
give you an idea of what you can do - they are actually SigmaChess databases.
However, a single game will print out in two-column format with diagrams and
annotation, even in the free version.

If all you want is text and games, in two column format,
Sigma Chess would be okay.

If you want to do something fancy (cut in photos, etc.),
then you might be best off by getting ExaChess Pro
from http://www.exachess.com/ and whichever of the commercial
Alpine fonts you like most (Linares resembles the Chess Life font).
A link to Alpine is at the ExaChess site. Exachess lets you specify
a template, and export the game as an .RTF file, after which you can
import it into Word, and add anything else you like in Word.

Of course, by the time one buys Word, ExaChess, and an Alpine font,
SigmaChess may look like a good "bang for the buck" deal.

Another alternative is the shareware ChessWriter - it puts out .RTF,
and comes with a diagram font. A link to this is at:

For a bunch of reviews of various Macintosh desktop publishing options,
see the Virginia chess site. There's a link to it at my Macchess site:
