He won 9 tournaments in a row. Fischer had some nice streaks in his day too,
does that mean Fischer isn't slipping? Is Fischer in his prime today because he
was on top of the world 30 years ago? Of course not! What he did years ago has
little to do with his current level of play.

As you so humbly pointed out, Kasparov was pretty much THE best chess player in
the world, bar none, for over a decade. It is quite evident that he is not heads
and shoulders above the rest of the pack anymore, and if you're missing that
then maybe you should have been keeping up with chess for the last few years.
