I agree. I am no doubt a weaker chess player than I was 10 years ago but my knowledge of chess is at least as good. Chess knowledge is of course different to chess playing ability. <snip> I'm weaker than I was 10 years ago, too. It's because of a simple lack of enthusiasm for the game. If you are keen at something you will be better at it. This introduces a third factor in chess programming ability... chess, knowledge, programming knowledge, and enthusiasm for for both chess and programming.
