That's hogwash.  Most GM's register months in advance.  And the first thing
they watch is who else is coming.  There may be a surprise or two, but not
many.  And once the first round is over, do you think that GM's don't know how
to use pairing software to figure out who they will play next round?  Talk to a
GM first, then you don't have to assume facts not in evidence.  GM players take
this stuff *very* seriously.  I can name three that I know fairly well that have
called me within the past 10 years to clear up a pairing question they had, as
they knew that I had written a pairing program many years ago.  They *know*
who/what/when... and they suck up tournament bulletins between rounds like a
teenager sucks up pizza and cokes.

1800 players may not have a clue who is coming or who they play next.  But that
doesn't mean the GM players don't.. far from it...  but there are several on
ICC.  Be friendly, courteous, and ask one about this, and prepare to be amazed.
