It's like a cake, Uri. Frosting never hurts! <yum!>
Christophe isn't a strong player, so he gets input on specific chess knowledge
he lacks, from consultants like Noonan, (for the opening book), and it surely
helps CT's performance.

You've heard Mr. Hyatt mention several times how GM's have pointed out specific
weaknesses in Crafty that need to be addressed. So Robert goes back and tries to
code that knowledge into Crafty's next version. ** It helps **

Yes, it was, and that's why I don't give a dang about comments like "DB played
the wrong move here, or there." , stuff. That's one big reason why DB was
constantly being worked on, and not out just kicking butt all over the world.

>Amir ban already said it and I understood that Ed agrees with that opinion.

And I respect their opinions a lot. I'd bet $$$ that Ed's evalu8 is better than
DB's was, (I don't know much about Junior's evalu8), but that's just putting
great track shoes on a great sprinter and saying it can now outrun a
thoroughbred.

Not going to happen in a match. A game every once in a while, sure.

Because our top programs all rely on greatly inferior hardware.

The moves that beat Kasparov didn't impress you?? Damn!!
You're a tough crowd, Uri!

I wasn't addressing your programming skills, Uri, in any manner. Please don't
think that. I am saying that Hsu and his team were VERY VERY smart, AND, they
had LOTS AND LOTS of resources from IBM, and they had already made a world champ
chess program/machine.

That's pretty much a dream team to me. Of course, they had consultants, like Ken
Thompson, which only brought in MORE genius to the mix, and MORE experience in
creating a WORLD CHAMP chess program/machine.

IBM wasn't trying to establish chess program credibility. It was just a
publicity project, in my opinion, that went very well.

>IBM says 200M nodes per second is not enough to convince me.

I believe the exact NPS are irrelevant, anyway.

>Note that I did not say that Fritz on 600Mhz is better than Deeper blue but >only that Fritz on the hardware that is going to be used against kramnik is >better than deeper blue.

I know you didn't say it, but Kramnik sure did. Just hype for the match, of
course.

I'd like to see what the performance of Fritz is on the new hardware for the
match.

Dave
