Yes, but it wasn't a straight Crafty clone, i.e. they tried
to improve several things about it, mainly in the evaluation.

The discussion back then revolved around the fact that Bionic
was playing in a tournament on dual hardware, without Roberts
permission, and that the source code was not available, which
was a violation of the license. (They never hid the fact that
their program was a Crafty clone)

It's always been unclear how much of the code was Crafty and
whether or not they just fiddled with some weights and gave
the program a new name and that kind of things.

Anyway, Hans described some of the changes he made to me,
including something related to routing knights. After hearing
it I got convinced they did not just change some weights
and they weren't the frauds they were made out to be. The
idea was completely original, very good and not too hard
to implement and get working.
