I'm glad to provide some ideas. I really like to think deeply about things that
have scientific aspects to them, and try to keep an open mind I don't miss
something important just because "everyone knows that doesn't work". That seems
to be how many great discoveries were made (with a little luck of course), so
maybe I'll get lucky one day and hit on a new idea that works :) It does seem to
take everyone working together though. If we didn't have people disagreeing with
us and challenging our ideas, we would end up with pretty weak ideas that
wouldn't stand up to much critisism, and those kinds of ideas probably aren't
good to base chess programs or anything else on.
