That'd probably be me. I have a dual AMD XP2100 system. Everyone else I know
is using the MPs.

You can modify your chip to be able to use SMP, but of course if anything was to
happen to it, you've wasted your money. No one is going to offer a warranty on
a modified chip.

As far as stability, mine runs fine. The only problem I have is that sometimes
my CPUs and heatsinks heat up so much, they overheat my video card. That's not
a problem with chess engines, or normal operation. But when playing any kind of
game, or video intense program, it will lock up.

It's up to you. There are drawbacks to both approaches:

MPs:

Stability, known to work. Support. However they only have the 2000+ out, not
the 2100+.

XPs:

More speed. But run the risk of losing a lot of money if something happens to
the chip.

Up to you. ;)
