Well darn it! The article seems to have disappeared! Not even in the archive listing..... But earlier today ZDNet had an article on the next generation Palm handhelds. It talked about Motorola's implementation of the ARM processor and the efficiency of the Palm OS. According to the article, the next-gen Palm systems will not only have high speeds like today's PocketPCs...but much longer battery life than any PocketPC. (About twice as long.) Furthermore, according to this article, which I can no longer find, the Palm will be able to do much more at a given clock rate than PocketPC can. This is due to the additional overhead that the OS incurs on a PocketPC. This is very good news for programs like Chess Tiger and ChessGenius which run on a Palm. Yes...I know that ChessGenius is also available for the PocketPC but from several emails I've received...battery life leaves a lot to be desired on a PocketPC. Indeed I've heard from several who've put their PocketPCs up for sale on ebay just because it won't play long chess games. Chris Kantack http://home.earthlink.net/~kantack/lcdchess/home.htm
