Ok, let some mad Pocket PC troll quote from an article (Roy Eassa posted
the link) about an interview with PalmSource's David Fedor:

http://news.com.com/2102-1040-919233.html

"Palm OS update will be gradual"

"...but users and developers shouldn't expect to see a big change overnight,
according to company unit PalmSource."

"and there will be no ARM-native applications to begin with, since
developer tools are not yet complete."

"Certain processor-intensive operations might also work more slowly under ARM
processors and have to be made ARM-native, he said."

"The first release of OS 5 will not support fully native ARM applications, Fedor
said. That will come with the next major release."

From my point of view longer battery life would only make a difference if
the Pocket PCs battery life was less than 1 day. It's no big effort to
put the Pocket PC in the docking station, when I have used it a lot during a
day.
And when you mostly run chess programs battery life will not depend on the
operating system (Palm OS vs. Pocket PC 2002) at all.

The hardware of the new palms will be quite different from the current ones -
and similar to current Pocket PCs (same processor, display with higher
resolution). To really take advantage of these features (better display!)
most Palm-software needs to be rewritten (e.g. new graphics), therefore
I expect that there will be less native ARM software for the new palms than
for Pocket PCs.
