As I mentioned in another post,  Crafty finds a mate in 48 with this position
after about 52 seconds on my 1.4G cpu.  One "partial" solution would to be ..
don't stop searching on mates longer than 50 unless you are strapped for time.
Many top programs stop searching as soon as they find a mate when often there
are shorter mates available.
