Think of this 50 move rule as being part of chess like castling rules or en
passent. You just have to know before going into the position, that if it can't
mate in less than 50 moves, so you avoid it. It is no different from knowing
that you shouldn't go from a KNNP-KB into a KNN-K endgame, if you play white.
