I don't think a programmer can ever honestly claim to be putting out the final
upgrade, unless he's just lost interest in computer chess. I believe that engine
programmers are driven by the goal of producing ever-stronger software; in the
case of larger commercials there may be some layers of marketroids between the
engine programmer and the consumer who, in some cases, might tend to obscure the
honesty of the engine programmer's intentions (all your chessbase are belong to
us).
