There is such a thing as using the customer base to beta test a product that is
not ready.  I doubt if it has ever happened in chess.  It only happens in two
cases:
1.  Complete, utter incompetence on the part of the organization that releases
an unstable product with inadequate testing
2.  Complete monopoly control were they can feed you dogfood, tell you to like
it, and there is nothing you can do about it because there are no viable
alternatives
