I know nothing about that and I think that there are a lot of people who know

How much speed improvement do you expect to get relative to the commercial
programs?

I doubt if building a special hardware for chess is a good idea.

The advantage of concentrating in software is that the same program can be
faster when the hardware becomes better when things like deep blue are going to
be always at the same speed.
