Subject: How do you play a computer vs. computer match over a LAN?

Hello --

I have read the postings, and can't quite find the answer I am looking for so I
hope others have tried and can help me. Here is what I have done.

I have a laptop with Windows XP PRO and the updated version of Fritz 7.

I have a dual processor desktop loaded with windows XP Pro and the updated
version of Fritz 7.

I have an 4 port Internet router, which acts as my LAN. I can read the shared
directories of each machine from the other machine, so my networking appears OK.
I can also ping each computer using the IP address of the other computer, as
well as using the computer name, so connectivity is there.

I can start both copies, start the Auto232 on both, and on the Host computer, I
leave the server address as a "." as the documentation states, on the Slave
computer I put the IP address of the Host. I then have tried both starting the
host first, and then the slave, and vice versa, and they both sit and wait with
"waiting for connection" and eventually time out. It appears they cannot "see"
each other over the connection, and I see no IP activity over the Router's
display.

Does this function even work? I would love to run some computer matches using
my two PC's without connecting with a Null Modem Cable (my laptop has no serial
port), and the documentation indicates that this should work over a network
connection but it does not walk you through step by step, or give an example, of
how to configure each machine.

Any help resolving this would be GREATLY appreciated!

Regards,
Chris
