It would be extremely worthwhile investing in a copy of Chessmaster 8000. It has tutorials to help you understand the basics of the game and further. It also has a variety of opponents from beginner level through to master level. Or look out for a book by Irving Chernev called 'Logical Chess Move By Move' or 'The Most Instructive Games Of Chess Ever Played.'
