If you are willing to pay, ICC (www.chessclub.com) is by far the best bet. If not, try FICS (www.freechess.org). What makes those two services superior is that they have been in business for a long long time. The servers offer tons of features you will get to appreciate even if now you cant think of what they are good for. The newer services in contrast offer less, buggier interfaces to choose from, and have all those teething problems you really dont want to be bothered with. Chances to play cheaters while too high is still a lot lower in chess than in all other online games if you play complete strangers. And again, chances to play cheaters is probably lower on ICC than elsewhere. Hope this helps. Georg
