Arasan 6.0 has been released and is available from http://www.arasanchess.org. There's info there about new features. It's been about 2 years since the last release (version 5.4). I'm not actually sure this version is stronger than the previous one, but it has fewer bugs, a better book, and tablebase support, which gives it some advantage. On ICC, it has won at least a few games against almost every program (including commercials, and yes, even Ruffian), and has also won against a number of IMs and GMs. So it is capable of surprises, even if it doesn't top the rating lists. --Jon
