Thanks, Bruce, for the honest and "no holds barred" response.  After all, I did
ask for that in my first line.  I will not bring up the business of "opening
books" again.  Sorry.

Please note that I was NOT speaking out against the use of opening books.

The idea was, simply, to compare what I called "basic engines" [i.e. engines
with the book disabled] in special tests run specifically and solely for the
purpose of revealing information about those "basic engines."

I was surprised to see responses in this thread defending the use of books,
since I had not questioned that use.  Perhaps it was one of my other bulletins,
where I had suggested that the initial position might be a good test position,
which gave people the idea that I intended for this thread was to be "more of
the same."

Anyway, life goes on, and CCC is still a great bulletin board! And I really do
enjoy reading the bulletins here.
