After all, I did ask for that in my first line. I will not bring up the business of "opening books" again. Sorry. Please note that I was NOT speaking out against the use of opening books. The idea was, simply, to compare what I called "basic engines" [i.e. engines with the book disabled] in special tests run specifically and solely for the purpose of revealing information about those "basic engines." I was surprised to see responses in this thread defending the use of books, since I had not questioned that use. Perhaps it was one of my other bulletins, where I had suggested that the initial position might be a good test position, which gave people the idea that I intended for this thread was to be "more of the same." Anyway, life goes on, and CCC is still a great bulletin board! And I really do enjoy reading the bulletins here.
