Actually most ppl agree that Intel's CPUs are faster now, but that wasn't the case before, so you still have a point. Hammer is going to put AMD _way_ ahead of Intel in terms of performance for at least 6 months. AMD has never been _way_ ahead before. That should help. Hammer will also be the fastest 64-bit chip for a while. I bet there is a lot of demand for fast 64-bit servers that use trusted, commoditized PC parts that can be sourced from many places. (Which was Intel's idea with Itanium.) I bet AMD will poach a lot of Sun, IBM, and Intel's server business. And people buying servers will pay premiums for processors, so that will improve AMD's revenue. There might also be snowballing development and use of 64-bit software for the desktop to the point where customers generally know that they don't want a 32-bit-only chip. It seems to me that AMD is taking all the logical steps to improve their processors, with x86-64 and the on-die memory controller. I will be very disappointed if Hammer doesn't take off. -Tom
