While I appreciate your commiseration, actually I have never needed a RAM
booster before with my W98se (since Dec'99). The only instance where it seems
necessary is running Fritz7 for long periods in infinite analysis mode,
particularly when Fritz7 is constantly accessing tablebases. In that situation
the free physical RAM falls to zero, and stays there -- unless I do something
such as use a RAM booster utility. I could ignore it. The system does not always
crash when memory falls to zero. But it becomes sluggish, and it does freeze up
occasionally -- so the RAM booster will hopefully be an improvement on system
stability.
