Chessmaster 6000
Just to inform those know who already know Chessmaster 6000 is available from
the creator of Chessmaster, Mindscape, for $19.95 at 1-800-859-3387.
Additionally you receive your choice of a free gift. Although the engine/AI is
identical to Chessmaster 5000/5500 :-(

Chessmaster 5600
Okay, I'm sure everyone realizes Chessmaster 5000/5500 will not allow Selective
Searching beyond 10 ply. Well, I found an easy way to by pass the limitation of
10 ply by creating a file "CM5600.cmx" which you may download at the PacMall
chess site. This could place Chessmaster on a more equal level with "so-called"
superior programs such as Fritz 5.
All those interested in downloading the small .cmx file please visit my chess
site at:

One note concerning the Walter-Pilz-SPV settings. I am finding the King Safety
setting of 170, compared to default of 100, to high. Chessmaster tends to make
horrifying moves, such as trapping its Queen, simply to protect the King during
non threatening King moves.
I would like to suggest a King Safety of 120.

One more note concerning Fritz 5 vs. Chessmaster 5555. I believe the two
programs are quite equal at 30 minutes per game. Although, it would appear
Chessmaster has a clear lead at 40 Moves/2 Hours.

It is amazing that such an old engine such as King 2.55 could even complete with
programs such as Fritz 5.

Visit my chess site to download the CM5600.cmx file and read further detail
about Chessmaster 6000 & 5600.

Best Wishes,
Pacific Mall
