If you insist on calling a zero-cost, freely-available compiler which is available on almost every platform (hardware/OS configuration) there is, which adheres to the standard rather good (at least its system-headerfiles adhere to the ANSI-C standard ;) and which produces pretty good code too, with maybe the exception for bitboard-based programs (or in general: 64bit arithmetic) (which probably translates to 5 ELO in chess), yes, it is inferior...
