And note that this was with the book of >a professional program! We do not know if the book of a proffesional program is an advantage or disadvantage. A good book is a book that gives the programs lines that it knows to play better and the professional book was not done to give crafty lines that it knows to play better. It is possible to investigate it based on statistics. If based on expereince the program get bad results with 1.e4 e5 relative to other replies to 1.e4 then a special book for the program may not include 1.e4 e5. I do not see how it is possible to do it in a proffesional book that was never tuned for crafty. The program may learn to avoid 1.e4 e5 after losing the first game in the match but this first game can still influence it's rating. Uri
