GCC in general is an impressive achievement, for a lot of reasons. In practice, I don't use it for my Chezzz, as it performs bad with 64-bit integers on 32-bit architectures, such as IA32 (x86). If GCC did not have the limitations (by design) that makes this so, I think Chezzz (and Crafty and other bitboard programs) would be about 15-30% faster that it is when compiled with GCC now. /David
