OK  are we talking xeon or PIV..  They are _not_ the same chip.

I am talking _xeon_.  And all current clock speeds of xeon support SMT.

You are talking PIV.  Only the 3.06 ghz and beyond will support SMT.

DO you get the difference now?

PIV != xeon.  xeon != PIV.  In fact, from my recent testing, using intel's
compiler to target a PIV produces an executable that works fine on a PIV
but not on my 2.8 xeon.

Look at their web site.  It is perfectly clear that _all_ current xeons
support SMT.
