This will happen in Chessmaster as well, assuming that your rating is still
"provisional", meaning that you have not yet played 20 games, so your rating is
deemed to be "not very statistically accurate". For example, if you play your
first game against a 2000 rated opponent and win, your rating is 2400. If you
play your second game against a 1400 opponent and win, your rating WILL drop,
because you have won two games against an AVERAGE of 1700, meaning your rating
will be 2100.

This formula stops being used once you are no longer provisional. In that case,
if you win a game, you will no longer lose rating points, no matter who you play
against.

Now, I realize the reason that you are complaining about this. The CCT is using
ratings as the sole guideline for ranking the players. So, the more games you
play before the tournament (assuming the rankings will be reset the moment the
tournament starts), then your ICC rating should be relatively accurate.
