They are actually not so rare in search. When playing OTB it happens maybe every 50 game or so for me. And when calculating it matters ever so often. But it is a function of style of play and opening choice, IMO. The queen as a blockading piece for pawns is a good indicator of trouble when evaluating a position. Quite important in heavy piece endgames. MvH Dan Andersson
