Just a note. Once again, a stupid bit of analysis suggesting that a modification to hashing would produce a 50% improvement in speed (by Vincent) followed by some direct profiling data showing that the analysis is stupid, and Vincent runs away and hides again, to come back another day with another pearl of "wisdom." One would have to wonder how many times this "pattern" will repeat? There is a moral for those watching. The "profile" tool is a very important one to use. It prevents you from wasting time as Vincent suggested, because you don't want to spend time speeding up something that represents a very small percentage of the total execution time. Sort of like some of the "can I make my move generator faster?" threads we see from time to time. If move generation isn't a major chunk of the total time used, then don't worry about it.
