I believe that the 2334 rating has arisen from the "official"
rating of the U.S. Chess Federation. But since they allow chess
computers to play under Action Chess conditions (game in 30 minutes),
of course the rating is much higher than it truly deserves.

The general rule of thumb is that you may subtract 60 to 100
points from an Action Chess rating to get the tournament time
rating. Therefore, GK 2100 would be rated between 2234 and 2274.
However, since the "official" rating is garnered from only
48 games against humans, there is a fairly large standard
deviation of error. My guess for the GK 2100 now would be about
2100-2150 at 40 moves in 2 hours.

We spend a good portion of our day here explaining to people
why our ratings estimates of chess computers are lower than the U.S.
Federation's "official" ratings. And unfortunately, even though
we may be talking about the EXACT model as the Federation, the
customer may decide that the unit the Federation is selling is
better.

This policy of giving manufacturers the opportunity to get
"official" ratings based upon "fast" chess is totally misleading
and should have been halted long ago, but it continues to this day.

Perhaps you can guess why that is!
