Castling the king from 'c' to 'a' or from 'f' to 'h' would look very strange moreover. Thus there less starting positions would exist, and additionally the drawing process would be much more complicated. b) well, I thought over adding files left and right and whether to argue for a special form of Superchess: [http://www.rescon.de/Compu/schachsuper_e.html] . But this approach will need new geometry, material and rules and does not include the classic chess game at all. So I decided to support FRC instead. Chess programmers would be happy to be able to reuse their data structures. c) it is essential to have as much as 960 different starting positions. So it is impossible for a human being to rebuild and remember 960 times the current knowledge of openings. So in FRC a game of creative brain starts from the very first move. d) Shuffle Chess has only half of the possible starting positions it claims to have, because by the symmetrie every two are practically identic. And I do not like at all sometimes to have two equal colored bishops on my side and the contrary both playing against me. Shuffle Chess is an approach into the right direction but it becomes first acceptable to chess fans when accepting the real nature of the game of chess by mutating into Fischer Random Chess. Regards, Reinhard
