The problem is that no-one in the Winboard village has written a perfect adaptor for the Chessbase GUI so all Winboard engines are sub-optimised under it, and not all to the same extent. This tends to make one skeptical of any results using Winboard engines outside the native GUI or Arena. Unless you demonstrate that a Winboard engine can beat a Chessbase one hands-down, then there can be no argument. But to prove this significantly generally takes a defeat by a larger margin in a match than most people expect.
