Cache size is quite important for many chess programs, as they can involve a lot of memory access. Increasing the cache hit percentage helps performance because cache access is much faster than regular memory access. P4 Xeons, the latest "Northwood" P4 desktop chips, and the newer Athlons have 512MB L2 cache. Re RAM the latest thing is dual-channel RAM, which some chip sets support (e.g. Nvidia for Athlons). But the advantage there is not really dramatic. --Jon
