Agreed. I'm very interested in getting one though, especially in light of their
impressive 3d rendering abilities (another hobby of mine). The spec stuff they
posted was off the mark by a lot. I streamed the keynote at work today and Jobs
threw up some graphs showing the 970 to be slightly slower in int but far faster
in fp than the p4's and Xeons. While searching on the net, i found evidence to
the contrary (just one of the links:
http://macbuyersguide.com/editorials/editorial-ppc970.htm ) showing that the
p4's beat the 970 in both categories, and mind you, the 3.2GHz P4 was just
announced, plus Job's keynote completely snubbed the Opteron which, by its very
existence, strikes down most of the marketing fluff Jobs was spewing.

But, alas, in judging objectively, it's important not just to be skeptical, but
to admit that there are things this machine will do very well. The G5 has
MASSIVE memory thoroughput, but I glean any idea as to what kind of latency it
would have.
