In a post I made 10-15 days ago, I "complained" about the quality of the board -
specifically the chess board "cloth" that bubbles up around the edges and the
chess pieces that look like they cost $1.00 to manufacture. After that (could
have been before that), I started seeing posts that questioned the 2450-2500
rating that Novag was claiming. During the advertisements I saw on ICD and
Novag, the ratings went as high as 2550. Those were selling points for me.
When I received the Star Diamond, I was disappointed with the "toy-like" quality
of the board vs. an enclosure that looked professional along with the claimed
rating. Didn't see it. However, I'm judging it by its appearance and not by
it's playing capability. That judgement is still out. I'm thinking about using
it against some of my computer chess programs to let those programs rate the
play coming from the Star Diamond. I'll let you know what I find out when I get
the time to run these tests. I don't recall anything being mentioned about hash
table sizes. Just the RAM and ROM, opening book, processor, processor speed,
etc.
