Yes, he has several quotes from me on his webpage, and I don't remember making
all of them. I'm not saying he made them up. We have emailed back and forth for
years. One of them just doesn't sound like something I would say. Regardless, I
really enjoy Dan's writings, and I would recommend them to beginners and weaker
players.

I have read the book, Elements of Positional Evaluation, and it has led me to
some ideas to try out. There is nothing directly applicable that isn't well
known to any chess programmer (i.e. there is nothing new you can read about and
then directly implement in an evaluation function that you don't already know
about). But I think it may be a decent source of ideas, and it is interesting in
any case. I found myself thinking, "maybe I can combine this and that..." or
"maybe I can change this idea slightly and it will work well...", and that kind
of stuff. If nothing else it shows you "how to think" about what makes up an
advantage in chess, which could help you discover new ideas.
