It is possible to play for a win by different means like antisymmetric
evaluation.

Contempt factor is only one way to tell a program not to play for a draw
and it only helps to avoid unnecessary repetitions(it cannot help to avoid
positions that there is no practical chance to win like KRPP vs KRPP when the
pawns are on the same side.
