Thanks for the interesting data, Steven!

Unfortunately the PowerPC (at least the G4) seems to be much less impressive
for non-bitboard programs like mine.  The last time I checked, my program
was five times faster on the Pentium 4 2.4GHz here at work than on the
PowerBook G4 550MHz where I do most of the development.  I use gcc 3.2 on
both platforms

I hope the G5 will be better, but I am not very optimistic.  From what I have
read, it seems to be optimized primarily for floating-point applications.
And I have no good way to use 64-bit integers.  :-(
