Yes, a lot of threads do seem to generate only moderate interest, and then die
do to an unfortaunate lack of percieved interest. Actually, I think there is a
lot of interest, but very few people who have the resourses or experience to
carry this facinating stuff off, so they remain silent, rather than take on the
burden of 'getting involved'.

My own situation for example; I love computer chess, and would like to sponsor
some strong player's in matches against these programs, for considerable (well
at least reasonable), prize money. Naturally, I'd want be be paid as a director
or organizer of such an event too.

Unfortaunately, I do not have any money, and right now I live in a place where
contacting potential sponsors is not so easy. (except through the Internet
perhaps). Once I move back to NYC (where I grew up), I'm willing to try, (at
least a little bit), to arrange some kinds of events, and hope to contact and
find other's with simular interest in doing such things. I'm very inexperienced
in such matters, so I don't expect or really guarantee that these events will
actually happen, I can only hope for the best...

You've probably noticed that I know quite a few IM's and GM's, but I know very
few business people on an intimate enough level, to convince them to invest,
which certainly seems to be one of the most important ingrediants to starting to
make these things happen, (I hope our friends at ICD and the Marshall Chess
Club, will take some interest to proposals I will come up with), and as you must
also know, chess player's (even the best ones), are not the most organized group
of individuals...

All the best,
